It Takes A Village

The Seeds of Hope mission and vision are made real each year by a dedicated team of volunteers, donors, and community partners who work to keep the dream of higher education alive for our scholars. Please take a moment to learn more about a few of our village members below :)

SEEDS scholars are blessed to have a volunteer as dedicated as Maya Myers. The wife of former SEEDS scholar, Dominique Myers, Maya assists with Seeds of Hope events, administrative needs, and student mentorship. Below, she shares her thoughts on education while reflecting on the life advice she has received and the career advice she now gives to students at the beginning of their careers!

Why is education important to you?

Education opens the door to explore career opportunities, network, and further yourself. What is the most profound piece of life/career advice you have ever received? If you don’t like the answer you received or you aren’t getting an answer, keep pushing until you find the right person.

What life/career advice do you now give to youth?

Never stop trying to better yourself, mentally, physically and emotionally.

How did you first discover Seeds of Hope?

I discovered Seeds of Hope through my husband who is a SOH alumni scholar.

Why do you support Seeds of Hope?

I believe a core value of being a good Christian is to be good to others, and SOH doesn’t just financially support youth, but also provides mentorship and networking events to help them get a great start early in their adult lives.

Why is giving back important to you?

I find purpose in knowing I’ve helped other people’s lives, and I continue to chase that feeling when I have an opportunity. I know that when you help others, it returns to you in a positive way, and I am always willing to lend a hand.
